Sustainable Development

In 2011, TKC became the first developer in the Carolinas to develop a LEED® certified industrial build-to-suit project. We developed a 720,000 square foot LEED Gold® building for Becton Dickinson & Company (BD), with 5 acres of solar panels on the roof. More recently, we developed a 360,800 square foot LEED Silver® distribution center for Crate & Barrel.

All of our new projects utilize LED lighting fixtures, touchless plumbing fixtures, and energy management systems. In addition, our standard practices now include sourcing materials locally, recycling, and environmentally-responsible waste disposal. Many of our projects also have solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and other energy-efficient features. 

Over the years, TKC has also redeveloped several brownfields sites, bringing contaminated or otherwise unusable sites back into the fold. These projects require significant remediation of hazardous substances and/or contamination and improvements to site conditions that help to reinvigorate the surrounding area.

Job Creation

We hire local architects, engineers, and contractors to complete projects. One of the most important knock-on effects of real estate development is job creation. That’s why we partner with state and local economic development agencies to facilitate growth in areas that need employment opportunities.
